[ For a long time, Akane had been scared of heights. He knew it was a bit silly, but it was hard to go up on hills or near the ledge on a ceiling. What made it even more silly though, was that he was a bird. He hid his wings in embarrassment, since all the other birds seemed to love to fly and knew how to do it perfectly, but Akane didn't even know how to fly. But that was fine, he just lived like a human, wings bound to his back and body dressed in bulky sweaters to hide it. There weren't even that many bird people in the city, so no one really suspected it.

However, when he was on a school trip, he didn't expect there to be a boy locked into a cage (even if it was a big one), with wings on his back. It made his own wing twitch. He didn't even know this was a thing people did, he didn't know any other birds these days, and in his town they were all treated pretty well.

He had been dragged along, but later noticed that he must have dropped his glasses (or did he forget to bring them? He wasn't sure), so he started to look for them. And somehow, he had gotten lost. Of course. He had no idea the place had closed, and that he was about to crash right into the bars on the cage the bird was in. ]

[ In some secret societies, it apparently really showed ones status to own an animal person, and it pissed him off. Either he was hidden away in a back room, or he was on display during one of the special collectors gatherings, and he was pissed off at both. He hated being locked up in a cage, but it was all he had known for most of his life. Being in a cramped up space and hidden in the dark made him frustrated.

At least his eyes were good, and he could see well in the darkness.

It had been very long since he had seen anyone that wasn't one of the people that "kept" him; they didn't let just anyone into this part of the shop. ]

How the hell'd you get in?

[ Who the hell was this guy? ]

[ Okay, so he gathered he wasn't supposed to be wherever he was right now. But it didn't stop him from having his face slam against the bars in the dim light that filtered through a window by the other side of the room.

He rubbed his head and bowed, head slamming against the bars again. ]

I am so- ow.

[youngblue]

[ An idiot... The guy who wandered in was an idiot... Just wonderful. That was useless.

Or not, if he was stupid enough to be talked into opening the cage. It would mean that Ao could leave and it would also mean that if he was busted, this idiot kid would get in trouble. Not that Ao cared about some stranger. Or anyone, for that matter. You gotta fend for yourself. ]

This clunky thing ain't gonna move out of your way if you keep aiming for it.

Ah, um, sorry, I lost my glasses...

[ But... that wasn't the important part. Because there was something he had noticed before he lost his glasses. ]

Why are you... in a cage?

[ This wasn't a thing that had started happening while he was growing up, was it? He had thought that his childhood... not-really-friends-more-like-bullies had moved away. ]

[ "I lost my glasses." As if that explained anything. He shouldn't have been able to get into this room even if he had been blinder than a bat.

Ao gives him a dry look, and a dry tone in his voice. ]

Because I just looove being inside cages, don't you.

I- I am sorry, I did not know...

[ He honestly wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not, but what he was getting was that he didn't like him. ]

[ ...you have got to be fucking kidding. ]

You wouldn't recognize sarcasm even if it sucker-punched you in the face, would you.

I-it was sarcasm? S-sorry... Wh-why are you... in there... then?

[ If he didn't want to? ]

Because I-- [ He stops himself from kicking at the dumb cage. ] --got fucking locked up.

[ There was something about a birdboy, but that... couldn't be... why... could it? ]

Collectors value or some shit.

Co-collectors-- w-what?

[ He feels his wings wanting to twitch, but as always they're tied down so hard it hurts. ]

People that collect rare things.

[ Obviously. ]

Ra-rare... things? B-but you are... A person... I do not... why would anyone...

[ Do people really, for real, lock people like them up? ]

[youngblue]

Yeah, but I'm not a normal fucking person, obviously.

[ Could he not see his wings or was he just stupid. ]

[ If he was someone to be locked up, what was Akane? Briefly, his hand went around him and he ran a hand over a part of his wing, neatly hidden. ]

D-do you... Why would they... do this to you...?

[youngblue]

[ Does he... what? His scowl deepens. ]

Because they're shitholes.

[ His hand clutches the feathers he can't feel beneath fabric and layers of bandages. ]

I-I... Th-that is h-horrible...

[youngblue]

Yeah, so--

[ He resists the urge to kick at the damn bars again. ]

--open this for me.

[legallyblinde]

Is-is it not... locked?

[ He squints, trying to find a lock or how you open it. ]

[youngblue]

Yeah, it is.

[ Obviously. Or he wouldn’t sit around inside the stupid thing. ]

[legallyblinde]

Th-then, um, how am I... I am so sorry, but how am I to open the door...?

[youngblue]

[ He points at the key cabinet at the far end of the room. ]

There are spare keys to everything in there, so there might be one to this piece of crap there too.

[ He has no idea if there actually are any spare keys or not though. ]
